Blood Money – Vol. 1

Meet Your Insurance Agent: Who I Help and Why Insurance Matters

Blood Money is a personal blog about Medicare, Life Insurance, and Annuities. It is the story of an Insurance Agent building an Insurance Business.

My name is Daquan Tyrell Pean, a licensed insurance agent based in New Port Richey, Florida. I created this blog to help individuals and families better understand the complexities of certain insurance products, my perspective or approach to them, and to give them a platform to ask informed questions, while explore options that may fit their needs. It’s also really important that people understand why I became an Insurance Agent, and some of the common problems that families face that can easily be solved by the products and services that my license, experience, and character allow me to recommend.

Insurance can sometimes feel complicated. Medicare comes in Parts A, B, C, D. Life Insurance can be temporary or permanent, and most people don’t even know what any Annuity is, let allow why a person would want to purchase one. Between unfamiliar terminology, different coverage options, enrollment deadlines, and financial considerations, knowing where to begin can be challenging. My goal is to make these conversations easier to understand, while adding a personal touch both on the client side and the agent side.

It can be difficult to find a decent insurance agent. Getting an insurance license isn’t exactly the same as getting a college degree, but it can still be quite difficult. In my opinion, there is a shortage of quality Insurance Agents in the industry.

Many life insurance roles work on a commission-only or base-plus-commission structure. Some agents prioritize sales over service, other agents prioritize relationships and protecting their reputation and clientele.

Virtual and independent life insurance agents in Florida average around $66,000 to $68,000 annually, slightly higher than standard entry-level licensed averages.

That being said, total income varies wildly—from under $10,000 for part-timers to over $400,000 for top producers depending on whether they work captive, independent, or multi-level marketing (MLM) structures.

Right now, my plan is to work on building my insurance business part-time, while focusing on my recovery, my religion, and my community (or military) service.

Moving forward, I’ll dedicate each chapter of this blog to a specific concept, case, or historic event, with the topics being based largely on feedback and whatever I have on the schedule. I’ll probably start with the concepts covered in the Financial Literacy Quiz that I’ve been sending everyone, while also specifically covering topics in Islamic Finance, especially the ones most relevant to insurance.

It’s become too difficult to write exclusively about financial topics when money has become such a low priority. So I’ll probably write about some more emotional topics, at least for the next few weeks, and then once I’m back to work I’ll catch up on Blood Money and A History of Blood, but the contents are too intense to focus on at the moment.

Once I find some partners or contributors I’ll relaunch these stories. But for now I’m taking a break. Focusing on a new blog called, “Emotional Sobriety”; something I’ve been planning for awhile, something that allows me to express my more sensitive side, for better or worse.
